Year 11 Leavers’ Hoodies

At Tolworth Girls' School & Sixth Form, we have a Year 11 tradition where students are able to earn a Leavers’ hoodie in order to commemorate their graduation from KS4 and for completing their GCSEs. As this has proven to be popular in previous years, we are keen to continue the tradition this year.

Year 11 Urban Fieldwork Experience

As part of the GCSE Geography specification, students are required to undertake two compulsory days of fieldwork; this comprises of a one-day fieldwork experience of both a physical and human environment. Your daughter’s experience of fieldwork will be assessed through the Geographical Investigations section of Paper 2: UK Geographical Issues.

Studio Fees for Art

In the Art Department students are required to pay an annual studio fee which covers the cost of sketchbooks and art equipment used during your daughter’s studies. English Language GCSE

I am writing to notify you of a change of exam board for your daughter’s English Language GCSE from that advertised during the options process in Year 9. Students currently in Year 10 will be studying both English Language and Literature with the same exam board of AQA.

Self-Harm Workshop - Monday 16 September 2019

Please be advised that on Monday 16 September, we will have guest speaker Satveer Nijjar at Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form carrying out workshops with each year group on self-harm. Satveer Nijjar recently delivered a parent session at Chessington Community College on self-harm, which was extremely well received.

Year 9 Army Outreach

On Tuesday 1 October we are fortunate enough to have the Army Outreach team coming into school to run ‘team building’ exercises with our Year 9 students. This ties in well with our focus on resilience and social responsibility which are key focuses for our students this year.

Year 9 Religious Studies GCSE

We are writing to inform you of a change to our curriculum delivery in Religious Studies at Year 9.
You will be aware that Religious Studies is a core and compulsory GCSE in KS4 and has a long-standing tradition of excellent exam results.

Year 11 Additional Science Class in September 2019

At Tolworth Girls’ School and Sixth Form we work hard to ensure that students achieve their very best. As the girls in Year 10 move into Year 11 Science we will be putting in an additional Science class on each side of the year group. Having smaller class sizes at this crucial time will allow students better opportunities for more individualised support from their class teachers.

Year 13 Maths BBC Breakfast Project

BBC Breakfast are giving Year 13 Maths students from Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form an opportunity to take part in their provisional project. Elaine Doran from the BBC would like to interview you and ask generic questions regarding your A Level Maths experience. She would then like to video you opening your results either at Tolworth Girls’ School or another venue in London along with students from other schools.

Conversion – Students in Laos

Last week Steve Blevins of Conversion come in to speak to our students about collecting trainers for children playing sports in Laos. Young girls and boys in Laos risk injury every day to play sports in their community with no resources to buy trainers. We can help by sending them old trainers before we throw them away. What is often disposable for us makes a huge difference for those children.

Aprica, Italy - Ski Trip Easter 2020

We are pleased to be able to offer the opportunity of a place for your daughter on the Ski Trip 2020. The trip will take place during the Easter holidays, departing on the evening of Thursday 2 April 2020 and returning the afternoon of Friday 10 April 2020. The total cost for this course will be £998.00 which is ABTA and ATOL protected.

12-Minute Cooper Test

As part of our drive for healthier schools in the local area, Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form and other schools in the South Kingston Schools Cluster are looking at how we report health and fitness to parents. From the Summer term we will be reporting your daughter’s score on the 12-minute Cooper run.

Key Stage 3 - Design and Technology Materials

In the Design and Technology Department we pride ourselves on the variety of specialist opportunities we offer that allows the students to experience designing and making using many different materials and techniques. We have traditionally supplied all of the materials, components and consumables required for each project, other than ingredients for food lessons. Unfortunately, there continues to be reductions in the funding available and as a result we are unable to provide such a range of experiences without your help.

Knitting for Charity Club

We have a number of students involved in a Knitting for Charity Club this term. We will be knitting squares to support the Knitting for Peace – Keep Britain Warm Campaign. They use knitted squares to make dressing gowns as an alternative to blankets.
