Year 11 Additional Science Class in September 2019

At Tolworth Girls’ School and Sixth Form we work hard to ensure that students achieve their very best. As the girls in Year 10 move into Year 11 Science we will be putting in an additional Science class on each side of the year group. Having smaller class sizes at this crucial time will allow students better opportunities for more individualised support from their class teachers.

Having worked at Tolworth Girls' School & Sixth Form for the past 7 years, I have already had the pleasure of teaching many of your daughters throughout their time here. As many of you are aware, Mrs Powling will be going on maternity leave at the end of this academic year. We wish her and her family the very best at this really important time, and are hugely grateful for the fantastic work she has done with Year 7 this year.

Year 13 Maths BBC Breakfast Project

BBC Breakfast are giving Year 13 Maths students from Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form an opportunity to take part in their provisional project. Elaine Doran from the BBC would like to interview you and ask generic questions regarding your A Level Maths experience. She would then like to video you opening your results either at Tolworth Girls’ School or another venue in London along with students from other schools.

Year 6 Induction Evening 

Due to a change in our staff INSET programme, please be aware that the Year 7 Orientation Day will now take place on Thursday 5 September 2019.  Students will be expected in at 8:45am and the day will end at 12:30pm.

Conversion – Students in Laos

Last week Steve Blevins of Conversion come in to speak to our students about collecting trainers for children playing sports in Laos. Young girls and boys in Laos risk injury every day to play sports in their community with no resources to buy trainers. We can help by sending them old trainers before we throw them away. What is often disposable for us makes a huge difference for those children.

Aprica, Italy - Ski Trip Easter 2020

Following on from previous years’ highly successful Sports Days at Kingsmeadow Stadium, we are returning there once again for our annual Sports Day. Sports Day is a whole school event and will take place at Kingsmeadow Athletics Stadium (422a Kingston Road, Kingston, KT1 3PB). It is a compulsory day for all students in Years 7–10.

Year 11 Prom Tickets

I write to you to inform you that you are now able to purchase tickets for the Year 11 Prom on ParentPay. Students will need to collect their tickets from me, in my office, upon receipt of payment only. The deadline for purchasing a Prom ticket is Friday 7 June 2019.   • Year 10 - Sixth Form Experience Day - On Thursday 23 May 2019 your daughter will be in school experiencing a range of taster lessons for Level 3 subjects (A Levels and BTECS) that they may choose to take when they move on to Year 12.   • Year 12 - EPQ research day - The EPQ (Extended Project) is an invaluable qualification which, this year, has been launched early, enabling students to make progress earlier. This day can be used by students to decide on an area for investigation, begin research and draft titles.                                                                                                                                Year 13 - 'Study Day'  - Year 13 will have a ‘study day’ during which they can revise and/or practice for their upcoming exams.   • Year 9 Whole School Curriculum Day - For the Whole School Curriculum Day on Thursday 23 May, Year 9 will be taking part in various curriculum trips. World Book Day Author Event – Friday 8 March 2019

As a follow up to our World Book Day celebrations, next Friday morning, after break time, your
daughter along with the rest of Year 8, will be attending a spectacular literary event in our new
theatre with writer Sarah Govett. Her best seller ‘The Territory’ is a fantasy thriller set in a future Britain where unflooded land is scarce.

Year 11 GCSE Art & Textiles Workshop – Saturday 2 March 2019

The Art Department will be providing a Saturday workshop for all Year 11 GCSE Art & Textiles students on Saturday 2 March 2019 from 9:00am - 1:00pm in preparation for the forthcoming exam and to catch up on coursework targets. It is advised that all students attend in order to help them reach their full potential in Art and Textiles. The Art & Textiles exam will take place on the week commencing Monday 18 March 2019.

We have had another incredibly busy half term and have thus far survived the Winter. We are really pleased with our new facilities and are in the process of refurbishing the ‘older’ building that is over 87 years old. Key Stage 3 - Design and Technology Materials

In the Design and Technology Department we pride ourselves on the variety of specialist opportunities we offer that allows the students to experience designing and making using many different materials and techniques. We have traditionally supplied all of the materials, components and consumables required for each project, other than ingredients for food lessons. Grand Opening of our New Buildings

We intend to officially open the new buildings on Friday 2 November and are delighted that

Knitting for Charity Club

We have a number of students involved in a Knitting for Charity Club this term. We will be knitting squares to support the Knitting for Peace – Keep Britain Warm Campaign. They use knitted squares to make dressing gowns as an alternative to blankets.

As part of the GCSE Geography specification, students are required to undertake two compulsory days of fieldwork. This will comprise of a one-day fieldwork experience of both a physical and human environment. Your daughter’s experience of fieldwork will be assessed through the Geographical Investigations section of Paper 2: UK Geographical Issues.

Ski Trip EASTER 2019 - Aprica Italy

We are pleased to be able to offer the opportunity of a place for your daughter on the Ski Trip 2019. The course will take place during the Easter holidays, departing on the evening of Friday 5 April 2019 and returning the afternoon of Saturday 13 April 2019. The total cost for this course will be £995.00 which is ABTA and ATOL protected.

Studio Fees for Art

In a bid towards becoming a cashless school, we are no longer handling money in the Art Department. Rather than students pay in cash for equipment throughout the year, we have introduced a studio fee for all year groups which covers the cost of sketchbooks and art/textiles equipment used during your daughter’s/son’s studies.....
