 Paul Mcdonald

Paul McDonald
Governor Community

Originally I decided to join as a Parent Governor in order to become more involved in the school and community I chose for my children's education. Once they left the school I decided to remain as a Community Governor in order to be part of a very special team. I also wanted the opportunity to help ensure that students leave school well prepared for work having experienced a growing gap when recruiting graduate staff in my industry sector. I feel education is pivotal to effectively improving our society and so wanted to be involved in affecting that positive change. I have so far found the experience incredibly rewarding as well as challenging having only worked in the private sector and have learned a whole new vocabulary of acronyms and processes. It is a true privilege to help ensure our young minds can be the best they can be.

Equality Link Governor

Term of Office: 10.11.17 – 09.11.21

 Ismail Laher

Parent

I am a Parent Governor in the Outcomes Teaching & Learning Assessment Committee. The 2017 Ofsted report, new build and recent 2018 results are just a few examples of where this school is heading. Much of this is down to the quality of staff, governing board and of course students behind it. I wish to remain part of this journey and team and offer the skills gained from working over 15yrs in the construction industry as a director in a local civil and structural engineering consultancy.

I was honoured to be asked to take up the role of governor of Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form in July 2017.  My initial visits to TGS left me with the strong impression of a vibrant, dynamic and caring school with a truly inspiring principal.  I am looking forward to doing all I can to ensure that TGS provides the first class education all our students deserve.

By training as an accountant, for the last 20 years I was a security regulator in Hong Kong with responsibility for corporate governance expectations of listed companies. I became involved with governance in education after I was asked to chair a group looking at the governance of a group of schools set up by legislation.  We designed a new structure and then had to steer the equivalent of a private members’ bill through the legislature.  I then became chair of the governors for one of the schools.  As a governor I would hope that my financial experience and work on governance will be of use to TGS.

As a parent of a daughter who has just entered year 11, I would like to continue to support the development of TGS at such an unprecedented time.  The school is successful both with results and the pastoral care offered, and I feel privileged to be involved.  I feel my experience within Human Resources compliments the processes and policies in place and assists the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team.

Over the past 20 years my experience has been gained within the customer focused / delivery sector. I have acquired various expertise such as supporting and monitoring business strategy, staff development, engagement and wellbeing.  I have successfully provided overall business support to the SLT and ensured a successful and positive working environment. I bring high levels of enthusiasm coupled with proven organisational skills and look forward to this new challenge.
