The TGS Online School
As Online School draws to an end and we look forward to returning to ‘normal’ school in September, it’s time to celebrate what we have achieved as a school community. At the start of March most members of staff and students had scarcely even heard of Microsoft Teams. Little did we suspect that a month later we would have managed to use Teams to move our school fully online.

Year 10 Return to School - Monday 5th June
Please see the links below for information regarding Year 10 returning to school:
New Year 7 - Virtual Transition
Ordinarily, we would be welcoming our new students and parents into school for our interviews, induction day and induction evening as part of the transition support we offer at Tolworth Girls’ School. As current circumstances prevent us from doing this, we are pleased to announce that we will be launching our virtual transition package on July 1st. This will include:
A tour of the school
Introductory videos from key members of staff
Summer Challenges for Year 6 students
We look forward to launching this platform soon.
Year 9 GCSE Options
Year 8 GCSE Options
Year 10 Assessment Fortnight
TGS Uniform Update
Tolworth Girls' School Healthy Eating Cookbook 2020
PGL Cancellation Letter
Information for Parents/Carers Summer Term 2020
We are looking at how we can provide face-to-face support for our Year 10 and Year 12 students. However, we will not be back in school from 1 June, we are still awaiting the Government’s guidance to secondary schools due to be released on 28 May.
I do hope that you are keeping fit and are managing in some way to deal with this ‘lockdown’ situation. I know that for some it is proving incredibly difficult and for others quite a lonely time. I have discovered the joys of FaceTime, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Hangout and a good old fashioned phone call during this time. I have used most of them for meetings, but I am now able to see my parents in Ireland to check that they are both keeping well using this newfangled technology.
Year 8 Assessment Fortnight / GCSE Options
I am writing to draw your attention to the upcoming Assessment Fortnight for Year 8 from 1 June until 12 June. This is the second scheduled set of assessments for Year 8 in the academic year.
Key Stage 3 Assessments for Art, DT and ICT
Following my recent communication regarding assessments, I wanted to draw your attention to the arrangements for the above named subjects. As you will know, the teaching time for those subjects falls in a shared session every week and each subject has made arrangements so that students need only attend one session but can work independently.
Year 7 Assessment Fortnight
I am writing to draw your attention to the upcoming Assessment Fortnight for Year 7 from 11 May until 22 May 2020. This is the second scheduled set of assessments for Year 7 in the academic year.
Local history of Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form
This year the History Department has been planning on launching a major new project researching the local history of Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form and the surrounding area. In order for this project to be successful, we require as much participation from the TGS community as possible.
Year 9 Assessment Fortnight / GCSE Options
I am writing to draw your attention to the upcoming assessments which will be taking place this half term for Year 9 students. Year 9 were scheduled to have their Assessment Fortnight during this period in the lead-up to GCSE transition. Given the current circumstances, we are of course adapting our practice, but persevering with the assessments themselves.
Art, Design & Technology/Food and Information Technology
We have all now completed two successful weeks of online learning and upon reflection and discussion with staff, it has become apparent that a small number of students in Years 7-9 are unclear of the expectation for subjects that are timetabled at the same time. So with this issue in mind I thought I would write to you to clarify the situation.

Belsen 75 Anniversary
The Belsen 75 Project was presented to our A Level History class as an opportunity to dive deeper into the atrocities which the Holocaust caused by seeing the grounds in person. To hand in an application each student had to write a letter explaining why we should be chosen to go.
Year 7 Bushcraft Trip - Summer Term
I hope you and your families are well. This letter is in regards to the upcoming Bushcraft trip that is planned for this summer term. Currently myself, the Finance Department, and Mr Mirshemirani are working with The Bushcraft Company, to see what our options are regarding the trip.
Year 11 Covid-19 20/03/2020
This academic year has taken a turn that none of us could have predicted and we are utterly devastated that our time with you has ended prematurely for this year, and with very little warning. We would like to begin by congratulating you all for your hard work, GCSE years are a challenging time, and you showed incredible resilience and tenacity to overcome the challenges it threw at you. Covid-19 Update 19/03/2020
At 5.15pm today, the Secretary of State for Education gave a public statement that all state-funded schools in England would be closed from the end of the school day on Friday. He also indicated that all the GCSE and A-level examinations due to take place this Summer, have been suspended; and that students would be credited for their learning in some other way. Having indicated that all schools would be closed, he then indicated that they would be expected to remain open for the children of key workers and for those in various vulnerable categories – providing a safe place and access to meals. We are expecting a definition of ‘key worker’ tomorrow from the Cabinet Office. It will take time to determine the nature of this provision at Tolworth Girls' School, so please do bear with us. Although we have been anticipating such an announcement, and have been preparing for various scenarios, the limited details so far released raise considerably more questions than answers. I do
know that you will obviously have your own issues and concerns, which we will try to address together. The Secretary of State gave no undertaking that schools would be expected to sustain a pattern of normal learning during the closure; but it is important that our young people do keep to a routine of learning. It is also vital that we monitor the Mental Health and Wellbeing of our students during this time; we will work on how we can address this too. The senior leadership team will meet with other colleagues and all staff in school tomorrow, to clarify as best we can what this announcement means for the school, for our students and for you. I anticipate providing more details before the end of the week. Thank you for your support and for your patience in the meantime.
Kind regards, Siobhan Lowe
Covid-19 Update 17/03/2020
I am writing to let you know that due to high levels of staff absence we have made the difficult decision to prioritise exam classes for the remainder of this week. This means that tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, the school will only be open for students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13.
Work for students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will be set via ePraise. If you are not able to access this, please let us know.
Covid-19 Information 16/03/2020
The school will be open as normal from Tuesday 17th March.
Please see attached PDF from the Headteacher with more information about the school's response to Covid-19.
The school is taking the precautionary measure of closing for the remainder of this week and Monday following some members of our school community displaying symptoms of COVID-19. The staff members and student were isolated and sent home. An enhanced clean will be conducted across the school site whilst we await the outcome of the results and further advice from Public Health England. All students will be expected back into school on Tuesday and they will be expected to complete all of the work set on EPRAISE. I will continue to update you if there are any developments.
NASA Kennedy Space Centre Trip

Girls on Board
I am writing to inform you of an exciting initiative we have invested in which we feel will support our students in dealing effectively with peer issues in school. The Girls On Board programme focuses on educating girls around the different dynamics that exist between girls, and how best to manage challenging relationships, to ensure that they can be happy and successful in school.
