In Memory of David Flood

I was a student in TGS from yr 7-10 and sadly left at the end of last year. I didn't have Mr flood as my teacher but I remember this time where Mr kninizch was teaching us and Mr flood walked in wearing some kind of Viking costume and a plastic sword shouting something

My two daughters attend Tolworth High school and my eldest was lucky enough to of met David, I personally had no idea of his illness at the time and he was still helping me arrange a school trip query right up to the last minute, I’m also running the London marathon for another charity but will be donating and supporting McMillan Cancer all the way, David was a great man and inspiration to everyone, god bless.

I am an ex pupil and now an oncology nurse. I was shocked and saddened to hear about Mr Flood. He was a wonderful and kind person who was a great teacher. He will be missed by so many!

Mr Flood taught me Gov and Politics in year 12 which meant we went on the amazing Washington DC trip together! However during that time my first every boyfriend broke up with me and as you can imagine I was heartbroken. But Mr Flood did everything in his power to cheer me up and make me laugh. I will always thank him for that. I don’t think he realised how much is funny comments cheered me up.

I remember he was my teacher from year 8 to year 11, and I knew him the entire time being at TGS. I'm an ex student so when I found out about his passing recently I was so devastated :( He was such a smiley person and he was so kind and genuine. He was an amazing teacher and always made lessons enjoyable. He always had a smile on his face no matter what. I still can't believe this but I have too. Rest in peace Angel

David - I think the quote above really reflects who you were - More than a teacher, a friend to so many. You certainly made an impact here at TGS. You will be missed but you certainly 'have succeeded'.

I remember when the year 11's did the Duke Of Edinburgh practice walk and Mr Flood wouldn't let us touch the horses but then finally let us after begging. Later that day he pulled out a packet of sweets and shared them with everyone. He really did make an impact on us all and we will never forget you Sir. You really were more than a teacher, rest easy x

Thank you for being there for my daughter during the ups and downs of school life. During her most recent challenge, when she needed an extra boost of bravery, her mantra was to "do it for Mr Flood". Indeed. Always there for the girls, with compassion and understanding, and hugely admired and respected by the whole school community for it. And thank you for agreeing to take a selfie with me in the pub so that I could embarrass her. Goodbye favourite teacher, and goodbye kind and lovely man.

Just heard the sad passing of David Flood. I had the privilege of knowing him when I worked at TGS before I moved to York. He was well respected teacher by both staff and pupils and enjoyed the staff socials with him. He will be missed very much and thoughts go out to all his family and friends may you RIP.

Hearing you rally the girls with humour and enthusiasm during those hard, lonely days of lockdown and online teaching is a memory that will always stay with us. Our heartfelt condolences to your loved ones and the whole of TGS.

Mr Flood was honestly one of the best teachers I’d met during my 5 years at Tolworth girls! The passion he had for history was reflected brilliantly in his teaching as well as the way he engaged all students. I remember annoying him for a whole year with my friends leaving jokes on his desk every week about Chelsea. He would always laugh :) Aswell as this during my gcse exams I left my phone to charge in his room for one of my exams and he left a sticky note on the plug and confiscated my phone, the note said ‘your not good at hiding things… see me at my desk if you would like your phone back’

---------------------

Mr Flood is honestly one of the BEST history teachers who actually supported chelsea!!!! I still remember the day you said that I was the most annoying in class when clearly that was never true ;) may you rest in peace knowing that there will all be sadness in our hearts knowing that aren't here with us anymore. Fly high angel xx

Mr Flood was one of very few teachers who clearly just loved his job, he would always find way of making learning fun and had such a passion for history. He inspired me to do better, even on those Monday morning lessons! You know what they say- the good die young. You’ll always be remembered sir, Thank you for everything.

I dont think words are enough to describe Mr Flood. His caring nature and extremely positive attitude towards everything was just so inspiring. He left an impact on everyone he met and I hope we will all continue to follow in his footsteps. He has helped me whenever I asked for it, and like the poem above says, I have definitely breathed easier because he lived. He has supported me through many difficult situations and I will be forever grateful for that. I hope you rest well Sir. Always in our hearts x

Mr Flood was one of the teachers that ignited my passion for History. I am about to complete my History degree and wouldn't be here without him. He was everything a teacher should be and always had time for me and my classmates if we needed someone to talk to. I hope he knew what he meant to the students he taught and how much of a positive and lifelong impact he had on all of us.

Mr Flood was such an inspiring person. He taught me Politics A-level and always started off the lesson with such a happy smile. He taught his lessons with so much enthusiasm, and here I am at university studying for a Politics degree with the same passion. It honours me to have been his student.

Thank you for the joy you gave me and my friends at school, seeing the funny side to life. I wouldn't be the best student at times and you incentivised me, sometimes without knowing, to come to school to try and to learn. You always knew I would overcome so much and I have, thank you for believing in me. You will never be forgotten and I always cherish your positive outlook on life and the kindness you shared. Wherever you are, I hope you are at peace x
