SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

Athena Specialist Resource Provision

What is the Athena Specialist Resource Provision?

The Athena SRP is a newly opened specialist resource provision within TGS. We offer up to 10 places for pupils with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and SEMH needs within the context of ASC. Students are expected to have some capacity to access mainstream lessons. Students will also be expected to have enough emotional regulation to be able to cope within the mainstream environment. The Athena SRP is not suitable for students whose challenging behaviour presents a risk to themselves or others.

Our Approach

The approach within the Athena Specialist Resource Provision is flexible and is designed to meet each students' individual needs. The Athena Provision is a calm and specialist area of the school where SRP students have full access to throughout the day. Staff use the SCERTS model to assess and monitor students' progress towards their EHCP outcomes.

The Athena Provision creates bespoke packages for each student, that meets their needs and interests. Staff work very closely with parents, carers, mainstream staff, therapists, the local authority and external authorities.

Curriculum

Students will follow the National Curriculum, with the long term view of taking at least 5 GCSEs at the end of Year 11. Students will also complete their Functional Skills Maths and English during KS4. All SRP students follow a highly differentiated curriculum that will be focusing on developing social skills, metacognition, life skills and emotional regulation delivered through:

  • The SCERTS framework

  • Zones of Regulation

  • Social Thinking curriculum

  • Life Skills and Study Skills

Admissions

Students must have an EHCP which states SEMH or Autism as their primary need in order to be considered for a place in the SRP.

Achieving for Children is the admitting authority for the SRP; TGS does not make decisions regarding admissions to the SRP. Parents should express an interest by the deadline in October, published by Achieving for Children.
